Each week, the U.S. Treasury auctions 4-week bills as well as 3 and 6 month bills. Fifty-two-week bills, 2-year notes, 3-year notes, 5-year notes, 7-year notes, and 10-year notes are auctioned every month. Five-year and 10-year TIPS are auctioned two to four times per year. In the past, the 30-year bond was auctioned about two or three times a year, but its issuance was suspended in October 2001. The Treasury auctioned the 30-year bond twice in 2006. The number of auctions was increased to four times in 2007 and 2008. Ten auctions were held in 2009, twelve were held in 2010 and 2011, and twelve are expected in 2012. The timing and frequency of all Treasury auctions are subject to change, making it important to monitor the Treasury calendar frequently.
